The True You: Forgiven

“As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us” (Psalm 103:12).

Guilt. It should be a 4-letter word. No one likes to feel guilt, but we all do. The truth of the matter is we’ve all done stuff we’re not proud of. We’ve all done stuff we’d love to forget about. But that inner moral compass we all have constantly reminds us that we all have fallen short of some standard. Like Paul said quoting the Psalms, “None is righteous, no, not one” (Romans 3:10).

But there was one man who truly was righteous. One man who lived a sinless life. And this one truly righteous man, in whom was no fault, traded His life for ours. That one man is Jesus. And because He traded his perfectly righteous life for ours, when you’re found in Christ, the True You is Forgiven. The debt has been paid. The sacrifice has been made. Once and for all.

The psalmist says it the best in Psalm 103:12, “As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.” I love that imagery. The east and the west are diametrically opposed and could not be farther away from each other. What a wonderful truth. When we put our faith in Jesus Christ, He removes our transgressions from us, and we become forgiven.

Maybe this is something you need a refresher on. Even when you’re a Christian and you love the Lord, it can be too easy to slip into a pattern of guilt and shame and forget that you’ve already been forgiven and are an accepted and loved child of God. If that’s you, I’d say you need to stop that stinkin’ thinkin’! That guilt and shame is from the Devil, as he wants to bring you down and make you forget who you are in Christ. Never forget that you’ve already been forgiven.

But maybe this is something you’re hearing for the first time, and you’ve been beating yourself up for some of the things you’ve done in your past. If this is you, please know that you can find acceptance, love, and forgiveness in the arms of Jesus Christ. And not only does He forgive you, but when you turn to Him, He changes your life and sanctifies you from the inside out.

The True You is Forgiven.
