Step One to sharing your faith

"When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.” - Acts 2:1-4

In 1864, Dwight Moody began a church in Chicago. Today, that church bears his name. When he started the church, he had a core conviction. He wanted to share his faith daily with at least one person.

His resolve was so strong that if he found himself in bed for the night, half asleep, remembering he had not talked to anyone that day, he would get up and go out into the streets of Chicago to find someone to share the gospel with.

What compelled him to do such a thing? How did he do it?

During the next few weeks, I will be giving several steps to sharing your faith. The first one is this: Recognize the supernatural.

There is something, or someone, other than yourself that wants to help you. The Holy Spirit wants to empower you.

Acts 2:1-4 gives an account of the Holy Spirit filling believers with power.

“When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.”

The specific event described in Acts was a unique time and season in the Church. The Spirit of God fell upon the group of people gathered together on the day of Pentecost. And they began to do what the Scripture says. They began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.

These people were amazed. The Bible says they were bewildered and astonished!

God does unique things. In this passage, He went to extreme measures to push His message forward. He translated it into all kinds of languages at once. Can you imagine?

God is just as serious today about getting His word to people. When you're sharing your faith, God is with you. You are not alone. He wants to empower you.
